Independent schools do three times more sport than state

New research confirms that independent schools do three times more sport than their state counterparts.

Independent schools do nearly 5.5 hours per week compared to less than two hours in the state sector.

State school involvement in sport has dropped sharply since 2010, strange when set against the supposed 2012 Olympic “legacy” and concerns about weight and fitness amongst children.

The Youth Sport Trust’s survey noted earlier this year that, “one in three children leaving primary school (are) obese or overweight, and less than one in five meeting the minimum recommended guidelines for physical activity.”
